Fully Inground Weighbridges
Due to the excavation work, additional concrete and work required for construction, Fully Inground Weighbridges are the most expensive Weighbridge types.
Because the weighing deck of the Fully Inground Weighbridges are at ground level, they claim very little site area, other than the area of the deck and the level approaches. Trucks are usually able to turn off immediately upon leaving the Weighbridge deck. The Fully Inground Weighbridges are ideal for sites that are restricted with usable area or have shared weighing and traffic areas.
The Fully Inground Weighbridges must have an access hatch(s) for servicing and cleaning needs. Typically the Fully Inground Weighbridges are classed as a restricted space and requires access permits, stand-by personnel and air quality checks before anyone is allowed underneath, which can substantially increase future servicing costs.
Fully Inground Weighbridges also need some means of drainage usually in the form of an automatic submersible pump, which then requires 240V access. Lights are also a welcome addition for service crews to make their job much easier in the dark pit confines.
The foundations usually include raised kerbing along both sides of the weighbridge deck to ensure the vehicle to be weighed can only enter and leave along the Weighbridge axis and over the entry and departure ramps/pads.
The overall installed height of the Weighbridge loadcells don’t impact as severly as they do on an Above Ground Weighbridge design as the pit height and strength is already very substantial.
