Wall Boards - Emerald Board

Emerald Board is a magnesium oxide based wall board that replaces traditional gypsum based plasterboard panels.

Emerald Board wall boarding has many superior qualities to the plasterboard products currently used in Australia. The plasterboard manufacturers continue to use the Gypsum based product as it is inexpensive to manufacture, the gypsum raw material is extensively available from mine deposits in Australia, which the various manufacturers control, and therefore generates the most profitability for them, even though it does not have the benefits that Emerald Board has.

The Emerald Board wall board benefits include:

Fireproof: Testing by various International agencies including the Australian CSIRO show that this product even at 1200°C did not catch fire or flame out
Water-proof: The Emerald Board product composition is such that its water absorption is less than .01%, and that even under extended periods of immersion, the quality of the Emerald Board product does not degrade structurally. This means that it is excellent for wet areas, as in bathrooms, laundries, kitchens
Termite-proof: There is no timber product used in the Emerald Board manufacturing process, and therefore the product is of no interest to termites or any other timber hungry borers or mites. This is because the make up of Emerald Board is essentially "crushed" rock, an inert material
Sound-resistance: Due to the dense composition of the Emerald Board product, a natural barrier to the transmission of sound is created, therefore the use of sound deadening materials found in traditionally built buildings can be reduced substantially, thus reducing costs
Vandal-proof/resistant: Due to the composite make up of Emerald Board, the density of the board product ensures that it is anywhere from eight and up to ten times stronger than plasterboard of equivalent thickness. Plasterboard is essentially a gypsum powder sandwiched between two layers of paper. Emerald Board is a hardened solid composite sheet which can't be snapped or broken like plasterboard unless considerable and excessive pressure is applied to it
Durability: taking into account the benefits listed above it can be clearly seen that the Emerald Board product is superior in its longevity. In fact Emerald Board is guaranteed for 50 years, however there are structures in Asia made of the same composite material three to fives time older than this
Weight: Despite the density of the material, Emerald Board is approximately 25% lighter than the equivalent Plasterboard products. This makes it easier to handle the Emerald Board sheets
Health issues: Emerald Board due to the source of its natural composite materials does not pose any health issues. The Emerald Board does not have any formaldehyde in its make up, and neither does it have any asbestos in its ingredients. The formulation is inert. Usual safety precautions do need to be taken when cutting Emerald Board or sanding it so that inhalation of Emerald Board dust is minimised in the application process
Recyclable: Due to the inert nature of the natural material that the Emerald Board is manufactured from, this product can be crushed and recycled and reprocessed back into a fresh Emerald Board composite mix to be remanufactured. In the event that a building structure is being demolished that is constructed using Emerald Board, this material does not need to be taken to the tip, it can be reused again. Emerald Board is entirely "green" friendly
Corrosion proof: One of the ingredients used in the manufacture of MgO based board materials, in particular from China that our competitors use, encourages the oxidisation of steel, such as screws and nails and steel frames where it is used, thus eventually compromising the structural strength of building structure. This issue has been neutralised with our use of inert binding agents that removes completely the oxidisation agent that causes this issue in the normal product
